Your wedding day will be filled with moments you’ve spent months, years, maybe even decades…*cough* dreaming about. From walking down the aisle to your first dance, every detail comes together to celebrate the love you share and the people who have helped shape your story. Photography allows you to revisit these moments through beautiful still images, but wedding videography offers something different: the opportunity to experience the movement, sounds, voices, and emotions of your day all over again. If you’re deciding whether or not wedding videography is worth the investment, here are seven reasons you may be especially grateful you made room for it…right below this fun clip of Alli & Adrian’s dance floor shenanigans!
1. You’ll hear the voices you never want to forget. Your partner’s vows, your parents’ speeches, the laughter during cocktail hour, and the cheers from your favorite people are all part of what makes your wedding uniquely yours. A photograph can capture the expression on someone’s face, but a film can preserve the sound of their voice, the way they deliver a joke, and the emotion behind their words. These are the details that can become even more meaningful as the years pass.
2. You can experience moments you missed. Your wedding day will likely be a beautiful whirlwind. While you’re taking portraits, your guests are enjoying cocktail hour. While you’re greeting one table, your friends may be critiquing wedding day outfits at another. You simply can’t be everywhere at once! A videographer helps you see and hear portions of the celebration you weren't able to experience firsthand, giving you a fuller picture of the day you worked so hard to bring together.
3. You’ll get to feel the feels again, not just remember the events. Think about the anticipation before the ceremony, the way your partner looked at you, the happy tears from a loved one, or the energy on the dance floor. Wedding films bring together movement, sound, music, and meaningful moments to help you reconnect with how it all felt. Rather than simply remembering that something happened, you can revisit the experience and notice details you may have overlooked the first time around.
4. Your wedding film becomes part of your family history. (Personally, this is my favorite reason!) Your wedding is not only a celebration of where your relationship is today, it’s also a chapter in the story your family will continue to tell. Years from now, you may want to show your children or grandchildren how you celebrated, who stood beside you, and what your loved ones were like at this point in their lives. A wedding film offers future generations a chance to see and hear people, traditions, and relationships that helped shape your family's story.
5. The little moments deserve to be remembered, too. Some of the most meaningful parts of a wedding never make it onto the timeline. It might be a quiet exchange between you and your partner, your best friend fixing your veil, a grandparent smiling from the front row, or an impromptu dance with someone you love. Yes, the major milestones are certainly worth documenting, but being a thoughtful videographer means that I’m looking for the unscripted, more candid interactions, too.
6. You can share the experience with people who couldn't be there. Whether a loved one lives far away, couldn't travel, or was unable to attend for another reason, your wedding film can help them feel connected to your celebration. Being able to hear the ceremony, see the reactions, and experience the atmosphere offers a different kind of closeness than a recap or a collection of photographs alone. Personally, I have family and friends spread all over the world, from Bermuda to Trinidad & Tobago to Europe to Vegas and everywhere in between! I want the people who couldn't be there to feel like they were there, and I want the people who were there to watch my wedding video and remember why it was worth the trip!
7. Your wedding film becomes more valuable as time passes. When you're newly married, your film may be a joyful way to revisit your favorite day. As life changes, it can become more like a reminder of the promises you made, the people who celebrated with you, and the beginning of a shared life. Some loved ones may no longer be with you when you watch it years later, and the opportunity to hear their voices and see them as they were can become an extraordinary gift. Your wedding film isn't just for the newlyweds you are today…it's something you can return to throughout your marriage.
Photography and videography each offer something meaningful, and together they tell a more complete story of your celebration. I truly believe that moments and connections this special deserve to be honored…and held onto as long as possible!
